Marine detailing
Boat & Jet Ski Detailing — Agadir Marina
Marine detailing treats gelcoat, not paint, and salt as a continuous attack, not dirt. At Agadir Marina we cut back oxidised gelcoat, remove the waterline stain, decontaminate every seam and fitting, and protect canvas and non-skid decking, quoted after inspection.

What does a boat detail include?
A boat detail covers twelve operations: a fresh-water rinse, salt decontamination of every fitting, waterline stain removal, gelcoat oxidation assessment, cutting, polishing and sealing, non-skid deck brushing, stainless fitting polishing, canvas and clear vinyl care, upholstery cleaning, jet ski hull cleaning, and a final rinse.
- Fresh-water rinse
- The hull, deck, rails and every fitting are rinsed with fresh water before any product is applied.Salt crystals scratch gelcoat under a cloth or a brush, so loose salt comes off before contact work starts.
- Salt and fitting decontamination
- Cleats, rails, fasteners and every seam are worked over by hand to release crystallised salt that fresh water alone does not lift.Salt trapped in a seam holds moisture against stainless and steel fasteners and drives the corrosion an owner sees months later.
- Waterline stain removal
- A dedicated hull cleaner is worked into the brown-yellow band where the hull sits in the water.Mineral deposit and biological film bond to gelcoat at the waterline and do not release under a wash shampoo.
- Gelcoat oxidation assessment
- Every panel is checked by hand for chalking, the powder that lifts on a finger from UV-oxidised gelcoat.Agadir sees 3000 sunshine hours a year, and chalking left untreated deepens from a flat colour into a rough, porous surface.
- Gelcoat cutting
- A compound cuts back the oxidised outer layer of the gelcoat, hull panels first.Colour and gloss sit under the chalked layer, not on top of it, so restoration removes material rather than adding a coat.
- Gelcoat polishing
- A finishing polish levels the cut surface and restores depth of colour before any sealant goes on.An uneven cut leaves haze that a sealant locks in rather than hides.
- Gelcoat sealing
- A marine-grade sealant is applied over the polished gelcoat to slow the next oxidation cycle.Sealed gelcoat sheds salt with a rinse instead of bonding to it overnight.
- Non-skid deck brushing
- Textured non-skid decking is scrubbed with a stiff brush that reaches into the moulded pattern.A polisher smooths the texture that gives underfoot grip, and a glossy sealant on non-skid decking removes that grip entirely.
- Stainless fitting polish
- Rails, cleats and visible fasteners are polished separately from the gelcoat, after the salt is gone.Polishing over crystallised salt grinds the salt into the metal instead of lifting it clear.
- Canvas and clear vinyl care
- Canvas covers and biminis are washed and UV-treated; clear vinyl windows are cleaned with a marine-safe, ammonia-free product.A dry wipe scratches clear vinyl, and the wrong chemical crazes it into a network of fine cracks within a season.
- Upholstery cleaning
- Marine vinyl seating is cleaned and treated with a UV protectant suited to outdoor vinyl rather than a household product.Untreated marine vinyl cracks and fades faster under the same UV load that chalks gelcoat.
- Jet ski hull and mat cleaning
- A jet ski is flushed, rinsed, hull-cleaned and has its seat and mat cleaned, usually on the trailer.A jet ski returns to a trailer after every outing, so salt and lake or seawater residue sit on the hull between uses rather than continuously.
- Final rinse and dry
- A last fresh-water pass clears product residue from the hull, deck and fittings before the vessel is left at the berth.Residue left to dry in Agadir's sun spots the gelcoat before the next wash removes it.
What we do not undertake
Six tasks stay outside a boat detail, antifouling and structural gelcoat repair first: we do not apply antifouling, repair gelcoat, treat osmosis, haul out a vessel, work below the waterline in the water, or service engines and marine electrics.
- Applying or removing antifouling paint below the waterline, a specialist coating task outside a cleaning appointment.Car Detailing in Agadir
- Repairing gelcoat cracks, chips or structural damage, which needs resin work rather than a cutting compound.Paint Correction Service
- Treating osmosis blisters in the hull laminate, a below-the-surface repair a boatyard carries out.Car Detailing in Agadir
- Hauling out or lifting a vessel from the water, work that stays with the marina's own lifting equipment.Mobile Car Wash in Agadir
- Cleaning or treating any hull surface below the waterline while the vessel is afloat.Car Detailing in Agadir
- Servicing engines, generators or marine electrical systems, including wiring, batteries and navigation equipment.Engine Bay Cleaning
How do we work, step by step?
Ten steps run in order, fresh water first: rinse, inspect, treat the waterline, decontaminate fittings, cut and polish the gelcoat, seal the gelcoat, brush the non-skid deck separately, clean canvas and vinyl, then rinse before leaving the berth.
- 15 min
Rinse the hull, deck and every fitting with fresh water
A fresh-water pass clears loose salt and surface dirt before any product or brush touches the gelcoat.
- 20 min
Inspect the gelcoat panel by panel, chalk test included
Every panel is checked by hand for chalking and noted, and the waterline band is checked separately from the topsides.
- 30 min
Treat the waterline stain with a dedicated hull cleaner
The hull cleaner is worked into the brown-yellow band where the hull sits in the water, then rinsed clear.
- 25 min
Decontaminate seams, cleats, rails and fasteners of crystallised salt
A soft brush and fresh water release salt trapped in every seam and fitting before any polishing begins.
- 90 min
Cut the oxidised gelcoat back with a compound, hull first
A cutting compound removes the chalked outer layer of the gelcoat, hull panels worked before topsides.
- 60 min
Polish the cut surface to restore colour and gloss
A finishing polish levels the surface the compound leaves and restores the original depth of colour.
- 45 min
Seal the polished gelcoat with a marine-grade sealant
The sealant goes on over sound, polished gelcoat only, to slow the next oxidation cycle.
- 40 min
Brush the non-skid deck separately, never with a polisher
A stiff-bristle brush works into the moulded texture of the non-skid decking; no gloss sealant is applied to this surface.
- 30 min
Clean canvas, clear vinyl windows and upholstery
Each material takes its own product: UV treatment on canvas, an ammonia-free cleaner on clear vinyl, a UV protectant on marine vinyl seating.
- 20 min
Rinse the hull, deck and fittings a final time
A last fresh-water pass clears product residue and the vessel is left dry at the berth or on the trailer.
Which products protect gelcoat from oxidation and salt?
Seven products do the work on a boat or jet ski: an oxidation-cutting compound, a gelcoat finishing polish, a marine-grade sealant, a dedicated waterline hull cleaner, a stiff-bristle deck brush, a marine vinyl UV protectant, and an ammonia-free clear vinyl cleaner.
- Oxidation-cutting compound
- An abrasive compound formulated for gelcoat, cutting the chalked outer layer back to sound colour.A compound made for automotive clear coat cuts too aggressively for the softer, thicker resin of a gelcoat surface.
- Gelcoat finishing polish
- A finer polish levels the surface the cutting compound leaves and restores depth of colour.Skipping this step leaves a hazed finish that a sealant locks in rather than hides.
- Marine-grade sealant
- A UV-resistant sealant formulated for gelcoat, applied after polishing to slow the next oxidation cycle.Under 3000 sunshine hours a year, an unsealed, freshly polished gelcoat starts chalking again within a season.
- Dedicated waterline hull cleaner
- An acid-based cleaner formulated to lift mineral deposit and biological film from the waterline band.A standard wash shampoo does not break down the bonded scale that forms at the waterline.
- Stiff-bristle deck brush
- A brush with stiff, short bristles that reaches into the moulded texture of non-skid decking.A soft wash mitt or a polisher pad cannot dig soil out of a textured non-skid pattern.
- Marine vinyl UV protectant
- A UV protectant formulated for outdoor marine vinyl, applied to seating and canvas after cleaning.Marine vinyl left untreated cracks and fades under the same UV load that chalks gelcoat.
- Ammonia-free clear vinyl cleaner
- A cleaner free of ammonia and alcohol, used on clear vinyl windows with a soft, wet cloth.Ammonia and alcohol craze clear vinyl into a network of fine cracks within a season.
Which craft do we work on?
Five craft make up this service at Agadir Marina: the motor yacht, the RIB (rigid inflatable boat), the sailing yacht, the jet ski and the tender, each carrying a different gelcoat surface, deck layout and fitting density worth naming here.
- Motor yachtThe largest flat gelcoat surface in the group, carrying the most oxidation exposure and the longest cutting stage.
- RIB (rigid inflatable boat)A gelcoat hull below the rubbing strake and a fabric tube above it, treated with two separate products rather than one.
- Sailing yachtRigging and deck hardware sit close together, so the non-skid deck is brushed around cleats and winches rather than in open sweeps.
- Jet skiA smaller hull with a fitted seat and mat, usually cleaned on the trailer rather than at the berth.
- TenderA small utility craft in frequent water contact, so the waterline stain reappears faster than on a larger, less-used vessel.
What result can you expect?
Expect the chalked colour to return to a flat, even depth after cutting and polishing, the waterline band gone, the non-skid deck safely textured rather than glossy, and salt releasing from sealed gelcoat and fittings with a plain fresh-water rinse.
The measurable outcome on the hull is colour depth. Chalked gelcoat reflects light unevenly and reads flat from a distance; cut, polished and sealed gelcoat reflects light evenly again and shows its original pigment. The waterline band releases under the dedicated hull cleaner rather than fading gradually under repeated washing.
The non-skid deck keeps its texture rather than gaining a shine. A brushed deck sheds soil without losing grip underfoot, which matters more on a sailing yacht moving underway than on a moored motor yacht. Sealing this surface glossy would remove the grip it exists to provide, so that never happens here.
Sealed gelcoat and polished stainless release salt with a plain fresh-water rinse instead of bonding to it overnight. Within Agadir Marina's 1-kilometre salt zone, that difference decides whether a weekly rinse keeps pace with deposition or falls behind it season by season.

What do we need at the berth?
Four conditions apply at the berth or on the trailer: a shore power connection, fresh water access for rinsing, safe and stable boarding onto the vessel, and calm, dry weather for cutting, polishing and sealing gelcoat.
- Shore power connection
- A 220 V socket within 20 metres of the vessel runs the polisher and the compressor.
- Fresh water access
- A marina tap or our own 200 litre tank supplies every rinse; salt water is never used on gelcoat or fittings.
- Safe, stable boarding
- A fixed gangway, a stable pontoon step or a trailer at ground level. We do not board a vessel over an unstable ladder or a moving tender.
- Calm, dry weather
- No rain and no wind strong enough to raise spray during cutting, polishing or sealing, since either ruins a curing sealant.
- Berth or trailer access
- The vessel stays at its berth or on its trailer throughout. We do not move, motor or reposition a vessel ourselves.
What determines the cost of a boat or jet ski detail?
No marine tariff exists in our price list. We position against the nearest catalogue work: polishing at 1800 to 2400 MAD and ceramic protection at 2500 to 3200 MAD. Every vessel is quoted after inspection of length, freeboard and gelcoat condition.
From 1800 to 3200 MAD across the nearest catalogue references, with the exact figure set after inspection — no marine service exists in the ledger yet.
- Vessel length and freeboard
- A longer hull and a higher freeboard extend every stage, from the fresh-water rinse to the final gelcoat seal.
- Gelcoat condition
- Heavy chalking needs the full cut, polish and seal sequence, closer to the 1800 to 2400 MAD correction-equivalent scope than to a rinse.
- Non-skid deck area
- A larger textured deck adds brushing time on top of the hull work, priced separately from gelcoat polishing.
- Canvas, vinyl and upholstery scope
- Biminis, clear vinyl windows and marine vinyl seating are each cleaned as a distinct item, not folded into the hull price.
- Access at the berth or trailer
- In-water berth work needs stable boarding equipment; trailer-side work removes that stage and shortens the appointment.
What is the difference between washing a boat and detailing gelcoat?
Washing removes salt film and surface dirt with fresh water and a soft brush. Detailing gelcoat removes the oxidised resin layer itself, using a cutting compound, a machine polish and a sealant, and restores colour depth a wash cannot touch.
| Factor | Washing a boat | Detailing gelcoat |
|---|---|---|
| Surface treated | Salt film and surface dirt on top of the gelcoat | The oxidised, chalky gelcoat layer itself |
| Method | Fresh-water rinse and a soft brush | Cutting compound, machine polish and a marine sealant |
| Frequency | After every use | Seasonal, once chalking is visible on a finger test |
| Duration reference | Well under an hour per vessel | 6 to 8 hours, correction-equivalent |
| Restores colour and gloss | No — releases dirt, does not change the surface | Yes — cutting and polishing restore original pigment |
| Non-skid deck | Rinsed and brushed lightly | Brushed thoroughly, never machine-polished or sealed glossy |
| Salt handling | Removes surface salt film | Seals gelcoat so future salt releases with a rinse |
Going further
Why does salt exposure on a moored vessel never stop?
A car collects road salt and sheds most of that salt on its next drive. A boat moored at Agadir Marina sits inside the salt deposition zone permanently, so the attack on gelcoat and fittings runs day and night rather than trip by trip.
Agadir's Atlantic coastline carries salt roughly 1 kilometre inland, and Agadir Marina sits inside that band on every tide. A car parked a few streets back from the water spends most of its time outside the heaviest deposition; a boat berthed at the marina never leaves it.
That permanence changes what maintenance actually buys. A rinse after every use removes the salt that reached the boat that day, but does nothing to the film depositing overnight while the vessel sits idle. Sealed gelcoat and polished stainless release that film with the next rinse; unsealed surfaces bond to it instead.
The same physics, on land, is why a coastal car benefits from a sealed finish rather than washing alone: a sealed surface sheds salt film under plain water instead of needing a shampoo pass. Ceramic Coating in Agadir documents that mechanism for a car's clear coat, the closest built page to the gelcoat sealing described here.
Boat and jet ski detailing questions
Why does my boat's gelcoat look chalky and faded?
Gelcoat oxidises under UV exposure — Agadir sees 3000 sunshine hours a year — and the pigmented resin chalks, leaving a white powder that lifts on a finger. Cutting and polishing restore the colour underneath; a wash alone does not.
Do you clean below the waterline while the boat is in the water?
No. We do not work below the waterline while a vessel is afloat, and we do not haul out or lift a boat. That work stays with a diver or a boatyard.
What removes the brown-yellow stain at the waterline?
A dedicated hull cleaner formulated for mineral deposit and biological film, worked into the band where the hull sits in the water. A wash shampoo does not release that stain.
Can the non-skid deck be polished to a shine?
No. Non-skid decking is brushed, never machine-polished and never sealed glossy. A slippery deck is a safety failure, so grip stays the priority over shine on that surface.
Do you clean jet skis?
Yes. A jet ski is flushed, rinsed, hull-cleaned and has its seat and mat cleaned, usually on the trailer rather than at the berth.
How much does boat or jet ski detailing cost?
Our price list carries no marine entry yet. We position against the nearest catalogue work: 1800 to 2400 MAD for polishing, 2500 to 3200 MAD for ceramic protection, and quote every vessel after inspection.
Do you carry out antifouling or osmosis treatment?
No. Antifouling application, osmosis treatment and structural gelcoat repair all fall outside a boat detail; each needs a boatyard rather than a cleaning and protection appointment.
How frequently does a boat need a fresh-water rinse?
After every use. Salt crystallises in seams, fittings and fasteners between outings and drives corrosion the longer it remains, so a fresh-water rinse after each outing is the single most valuable habit a boat owner keeps.
